Dr Seuss: Fussy Eater of the Month

Ok, so it’s not actually Dr Seuss who was the fussy eater it was the cat thing in the big hat (not to be confused with Cat in the Hat), but he doesn’t have a name so lets call him, er… Fusscat No-Name.

eggs and ham We can all learn a lesson from Dr Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham.

For those who haven’t read it (where have you been?) or can’t remember, let me first bring you up to date.

Sam I Am, rather a buoyant sort of a chap, finds out that Fusscat doesn’t like green eggs and ham. Somewhat perturbed by this, as is so often the case when people meet fussy eaters, Sam I Am thinks that Fusscat’s environment must be putting him off – perhaps if they re-locate to a house or a box, or hold company with a mouse or a fox, it might help.

But Fusscat isn’t impressed, he cries “I could not, would not, on a boat, I will not, will not, with a goat, I will not eat them in the rain…” you get the idea.

Eventually, Sam I Am realises that Fusscat wouldn’t like the dish even if he was in a car. This is a bit of a blow so, and this is where the plot really thickens, Sam I Am decides that Fusscat must try the green eggs and ham.

At first he refuses but Sam I Am piles on the pressure until Fusscat just can’t take it anymore. He tries the green eggs and ham and in one of the most exciting twists in fiction, he loves them.

“I do so like green eggs and ham! Thank you! Thank you, Sam-I-am”

What have we learnt?

Try, try and try some more – no matter how much you think you don’t like something, you really don’t know until you’ve tasted it.

Dr Seuss’s Fusscat No-Name, I salute you as my fussy eater of the Month.
